What is Data mining in GIS?

Geographical Information System (GIS) stores data collected from assorted sources in varied formats. They are stored in the form of geodatabases concerning the latitude and longitudinal positions of the land, oceans, forests and other natural resources. While Data mining in GIS is the computerized process of determining patterns in data.

The purpose of Data mining is to find the connection between the various datasets that are unanticipated. The best example of data mining is the flow of Supermarket chains who use it to increase their sales by locating correlations in consumer buying practices. Therefore, Data Mining can be useful for scientific research, finance, fraud detection, mining, sports, etc.
